はりだし【張り出し】

1 〔外側にせせり出ること〕 overhanging; projecting (outward); 【建】 a gable; a gallery; (屋根などの) an overhang; (弓形の) a coving.

●船尾の張り出し an overhang of a ship.

●今年は太平洋高気圧の張り出しが弱い. This year, the Pacific high-pressure system is barely strong enough to reach Japan.

2 〔掲示〕 a notice; a poster; a placard; a sign; a bill.

3 〔相撲の番外の地位〕

●張り出し大関 【相撲】 a haridashi ōzeki; a champion sumo wrestler ranked below the first two champions on the official ranking sheet

・張り出し横綱 【相撲】 a haridashi yokozuna; a grand champion sumo wrestler ranked below the first two grand champions on the official ranking sheet.
